Mayor McCormac: Powering Woodbridge through Solar
The Big Idea:
● Woodbridge is the latest New Jersey city to participate in the Community Solar project, a state program that allows New Jersey communities to enroll in the benefits of clean, solar energy without installing panels on their homes.
● The project delivers energy from solar panels located on nearby commercial properties to the electric company, allowing participating residents to receive a discount on their electric bills.
● The Woodbridge Township installation consists of more than 2,300 panels and creates equitable access to clean energy for low- and moderate-income households.
Background:
The project is part of Woodbridge Mayor John E. McCormac’s commitment to creating innovative clean energy to improve community health, create green jobs, and improve community sustainability.
The solar panel installation was managed by Solar Landscape, and is located on the rooftop of local business RPM Warehousing & Transportation. The project will serve 700 nearby households, saving Woodbridge residents over $150,000 per year on their home energy bills.
Mayor McCormac has also organized a local rec league in Woodbridge, making sure that youth have access to sports.
Fun Fact:
New Jersey is now home to the largest number of community solar projects for low- and moderate-income families in the U.S.
Their Take:
“Woodbridge Township is excited to announce our partnership with Solar Landscape to implement a brand-new community solar project that will serve approximately 700 households and that will assist our residents with saving money on their electric bills while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
